The regulated gambling and betting sector in the UK is expected to generate a total of 15,000 tech jobs in the upcoming 5 years, as part of an ambitious Levelling Up agenda.
According to reports, 10,000 technology jobs are already provided by the online gambling, betting and bingo industry in the country, which also supports a further 30,000 posts. However, gambling industry experts predict even more jobs to be established outside London, especially considering the current growth trends for gaming and betting businesses across the UK.
The Levelling Up agenda has been unveiled at a time when a landmark report issued earlier today by the Purpose Coalition greeted the members of the trading body that represents the legal and regulated gambling industry – the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) – for the fact they provide jobs and investment outside the capital.
The Purpose Coalition involves the most innovative organisations, leaders and members in the UK, such as Amazon, the BBC, UK universities, UK councils and NHS Trusts. Its latest report, released on June 6th, sets out how the members of the Betting and Gaming Council are currently in the leading position in entertainment and technology development and are determined to play their role in helping the country rebound from the detrimental impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. As mentioned above, the project is primarily focused on destinations outside the capital.
The British Betting Industry Remains Committed to Enhancing Safer Gambling Standards
Michael Dugher, CEO of the BGC, shared that the trade body of the regulated gambling industry is willing to build a world-class industry that is respected, better understood and a fully-engaged member of the communities where its members operate.
Reportedly, many of the expert roles that are set to be created, will be using technology to deliver on the regulated sector’s commitment to enhance gambling operators’ standards in safer and transparent gambling, especially online. For the time being, almost two-thirds of the positions are based outside London, with almost 20,000 of these jobs available in the West Midlands alone. Some of the Betting and Gaming Council’s members have established technology powerhouses in various destinations, such as Stoke-on-Trent and Leeds, to support the high-street gaming industry.
As explained by Mr Dugher, the latest report issued by the Purpose Coalition had provided the BGC with a framework to help its members further deliver measurable and meaningful progress, so that the regulated gambling sector in the country made sure that it contributed to every part of the country. He also confirmed that the legal gambling industry of the UK is on track to establish another 15,000 high-paid expert jobs and the only thing that risked that growth would be poorly interpreted regulations.
According to reports, the regulated gambling and betting sector in the UK supports a total of 119,000 jobs and accounts for £4.5 billion in taxes for the country’s Treasury and a significant contribution to the Levelling Up agenda.
